Sabut Masoor Dal Recipe| How to make Sabut Masoor Dal Recipe


Ingredients of Sabut Masoor Dal:-

For Cooking:-
  • 1 cup Sabut masoor dal 
  • 2 to 3 cups water for pressure cooking

Other Ingredients:-

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds 
  • 1 tsp ginger-garlic paste 
  • medium onionchopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 green chili, chopped
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder 
  • ½ tsp red chili powder 
  • ½ tsp  garam masala powder
  • 1 tsp crushed kasuri methi (dry fenugreek leaves)
  • 2-3 tbsp cream (optional)
  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • a few chopped coriander leaves or some crushed kasuri methi or cream for garnishing
  • salt as required
  • 1 cup hot water or as required
Instructions:-

Pressure Cooking Sabut Masoor Dal:-
  1. Rinse the sabut masoor dal with water.
  2. In a pressure-cooker take a masoor dal and add water.
  3. Presser cook for 10-12 min or 3-4  whistles or till the dal is cooked well.

Making tempering Sabut Masoor Dal:-

  1. In a non-stick pan heat oil and once the oil is hot add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  2. Add ginger paste, garlic paste and green chili slit. Cook for 30 sec.
  3. Add finely chopped onion and cook for about 2 min or until they turn golden in color.
  4. Add the tomatoes and cook for about 2 min or till the tomatoes become mushy.
  5. Once the tomatoes are cooked, add all the spices such as turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala powder and salt to taste.
  6. mix well and cook for about 2 min or until the masala is cooked well.
  7. Add boiled masoor dal to the gravy and give a quick stir.  Simmer the masoor dal on a  medium flame. If the dal is thick then add some hot water or as required. Cook for 3 min till all the ingredients blend well together.
  8. Finally, add some fresh coriander leaves.
  9. Served with some basmati rice or Roti.
